I was involved in a conspiracy

I admit it. I am guilty. I was involved in a conspiracy. Some folks began the conspiracy almost one year ago, but I was not part of it at that time. I did not know about the plans until a month ago when a few of the conspirators invited me to join. I never hesitated, since I had been part of such conspiracies in past years, but it has been a few years since I have been part of such operations.

Of course, such operations require money. I, and all of the conspirators began to fund raise from people that we knew who had positive sentiments about this work. Soon we had raised several hundred dollars. This was modest, but it was better than not raising any money.

Eight days ago, on Sunday, October 20, the operation began. Six of us from the Community Church of Glen Rock joined Christians from other area churches and began our operation; a walk to contribute money to fight against hunger and food insecurity. We participated in a CROP Walk to raise money for Church World Service (CWS).

Church World Service is a faith-based organization that began following World War Two in response to the devastation of Europe that was caused by the war. The organization has been involved in disaster relief around the world since then. CROP Walks began in 1969 and have been held continuously since then. One quarter of the money raised from these walks stays in the local community while three quarters goes toward relieving hunger worldwide.

This year alone, 13,580 people in our nation signed up to walk in 500 different walks. I felt a bit badly that I only raised $ 75.00 but that small amount of money still can have an impact. Through Church World Service, one household can get a group of chickens for $ 20.00. One family can get a water filter system for $ 30.00. Three families can be established with a home garden for $ 60.00. Even my modest contribution can greatly impact a few families. I am grateful that I was able to raise money and participate.

Our conspiracy was a success. We raised money to bless people who have so much less than we have. Perhaps we could have done more, but we did some. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to do this. Next year, I invite more people to join our conspiracy for good and battle against hunger both at home and around the world.
